"Zero Day" Trailer: Robert De Niro Investigates a Massive Cyber Attack in Netflix’s New Political Thriller Series with Angela Bassett and Jesse Plemons
Robert De Niro Stars as a Former U.S. President Tackling a National Crisis in Netflix's Political Thriller Series with Angela Bassett, Lizzy Caplan, Joan Allen & Jesse Plemons
Up until now, Oscar-winner Robert De Niro has mostly been known for his big-screen performances. He will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the great film stars of his generation, if not the greatest actor to ever live. But the industry has changed, and there’s no denying that. Streaming platforms are now more welcoming to older, prestigious actors, inviting them to play in their sandbox. We’ve seen this shift with movie stars like Harrison Ford, Julia Roberts, Al Pacino, Jeff Bridges, Gary Oldman, and many others, all of whom have firmly embraced the world of streaming television. Now you can add De Niro to that list as he joins the Netflix family with his first television role as a series regular.
Zero Day, a new political conspiracy thriller series, features the Raging Bull star as George Mullen, a former U.S. president who is called in to help during a national crisis. Mullen is assigned by the current U.S. president (played by Angela Bassett) to lead an investigation into a recent massive cyberattack that has crippled every computer system and cellphone in America. His mission is not only to knock down doors but also to pick up any suspicious citizens from the streets, even if it means violating people's civil rights.
But with this immense power and authority comes great scrutiny. Mullen soon faces a public backlash, putting his very reputation on the line. But is his reputation as spotless as they say it is? Is he truly competent for the job? And should the public start questioning his cognitive abilities, as there may be more reason to worry than they realize? But if he isn’t fit for the job, then who will find the perpetrators?
Joining De Niro in the series is a stellar supporting cast that includes Angela Bassett as President Mitchell, Lizzy Caplan as De Niro's daughter, FBI agent Alexandra Mullen, Joan Allen as De Niro's wife Sheila Mullen, with notable supporting turns from Jesse Plemons, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, Dan Stevens, Bill Camp, Gaby Hoffmann, Clark Gregg, and Mark Ivanir.
Zero Day is created by Eric Newman (Narcos), former NBC News president Noah Oppenheim, and New York Times writer Michael S. Schmidt. De Niro also serves as an executive producer, while Newman and Oppenheim are co-showrunners for this six-episode limited series.
Acclaimed television director Lesli Linka Glatter, known for her work on such shows as Homeland, The West Wing, and Love & Death, directs the entire first season.
Zero Day will debut on Thursday, February 20th, only on Netflix.
