First Look Peek: Director David F. Sandberg Brings the Hit PlayStation Horror Game "Until Dawn" to the Big Screen
If you haven't heard by now, video games are all the rage. While the superhero genre might be hitting a roadblock these days, it has created an opening for video game film adaptations to make some headway. Could we be seeing a shift where video game adaptations surpass comic book adaptations? Well, let's not count those eggs before they hatch. But it's clear that the big bosses in Hollywood are betting on video game adaptations as a source for new content. Case in point: this new sneak peek at the upcoming film adaptation of the popular PlayStation horror game Until Dawn, which won't be a direct adaptation but rather a cinematic expansion of the video game.
Director David F. Sandberg, fresh off his superhero stint with the two Shazam! films, returns to his horror roots for the upcoming Until Dawn feature version. "The movie has sort of the same tone and the same vibe (of the video game) but it expands upon the universe," Sandberg reveals in this newly released sneak peek at the upcoming horror thriller.
Sandberg is working alongside horror producer-screenwriter Gary Dauberman, whose writing credits include recent horror hits like Annabelle, The Nun, and IT Chapter 1 and 2. Dauberman co-writes the Until Dawn film adaptation with former Attack of the Show! host Blair Butler, who previously wrote the 2022 vampire thriller The Invitation and the 2019 supernatural thriller Polaroid.
Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A'zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Maia Mitchell, and Peter Stormare, the film centers around a group of friends as they attempt to solve the year-long mystery behind the sudden disappearance of one friend's younger sister. As they investigate, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer. While being picked off one by one, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive ... until dawn.
Until Dawn is headed to theaters on April 25th.
