"Together" Teaser Trailer: Dave Franco and Alison Brie’s Love Story Takes a Sinister Turn in Neon's New Supernatural Horror Thriller
A couple’s idyllic new home hides something terrifying in Neon’s latest eerie chiller.
Real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie star in Together, a dark romantic horror thriller that explores the unexpected transformations love can bring—especially when something supernatural is involved. Emerging as one of the biggest breakout hits from this year’s Sundance Midnight section, Together sparked a heated bidding war, ultimately landing at Neon Films in an eyebrow-raising $20 million distribution deal.
Neon, the studio behind horror hits like Longlegs, The Monkey, and Cuckoo, has been steadily cementing itself as a formidable rival to A24—perhaps even edging them out, especially after securing Best Picture Oscar wins for Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite and, just recently, Sean Baker’s Anora. So when Neon drops that kind of cash on a film, it raises the question: is Together destined to be the next breakout horror sensation?
In the film, Franco and Brie play a couple who have just moved into a new home in a seemingly idyllic countryside community where everything feels just peachy keen. But as they settle in and try to fit into their new surroundings, they begin to notice something is slightly off. A heavy, sinister presence seems to lurk just beyond the tree line, creeping ever closer into their private lives—changing them in ways they don’t fully understand. As their bond is tested in eerie and unexpected ways, they’re about to discover the true meaning of togetherness in ways they never could have imagined.
If that all sounds a little vague, it’s because we’re still trying to wrap our heads around the film’s newly released teaser trailer (watch it above).
The eerie footage features unsettling imagery, including two feral dogs prowling in the woods, Dave Franco’s character gagging as he pulls a long, stringy hair from between his teeth, and Alison Brie contorting in an Exorcist-like convulsion, her body twisting backward in an unnatural way. Whatever’s going on in Together, one thing’s for sure—it’s not your typical love story.
The upcoming horror film hails from writer-director Michael Shanks, marking his feature film debut.
The Australian-born filmmaker made a splash with his 2020 short film Rebooted, which showcased his ability to blend special effects, stop-motion, and live-action. The short tells the story of a stop-motion animated skeleton monster struggling to find work in a Hollywood that has moved on from the outdated technique.
We imagine Together will only further showcase the talents of filmmaker Michael Shanks, potentially establishing him as one of horror’s rising voices.
Together is slated to hit theaters on August 1st.
