Kaitlyn Dever Joins as Abby in New Season 2 Teaser for HBO’s Post-Apocalyptic Horror Series "The Last of Us," starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey
Kaitlyn Dever Joins Season 2 as Abby in HBO’s Highly Anticipated Post-Apocalyptic Horror Drama Based On the Popular Video Game.
If you like your television previews to lean heavily on the tease, showcasing only a series of images set to tense music and an ominous narration that says, "It doesn't matter if you have a code like me. There are just some things everyone agrees are just... wrong," well, you're going to really dig this new teaser for the highly anticipated second season of the immensely popular HBO post-apocalyptic horror series The Last of Us.
Kaitlyn Dever, who has been added to the cast of Season 2, kicks off this new teaser as the first image. Armed with a Glock, we see her gingerly walking down a narrow, darkened hallway with a red alarm blaring in the background. We can't tell if she's hunting someone (or something) —or if she is the one being hunted. Dever is one of many new faces joining this season. She plays Abby, a young rebel soldier who is extremely pivotal to the storyline of Season 2. To say more would be crossing into spoiler territory, but one can say Abby is a fierce woman with righteous vengeance in her heart.
Recently announced during Sony's press conference at CES on Monday, the show's co-creator, writer, and executive producer Neil Druckmann revealed that the second season will consist of only seven all-new episodes, compared to the nine episodes in Season 1. Also, during CES, the makers of the show released the official synopsis for Season 2. It reads:
"After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie's (Bella Ramsey) collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind."
In addition to Pascal, Ramsey, and Dever, returning cast members include Gabriel Luna as Joel's survivalist brother Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Tommy's equally no-nonsense wife, Maria. Besides Dever as Abby, new cast members include Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O'Hara, meanwhile, will guest star in an undisclosed role (is that her speaking in this new teaser?).
Based on the acclaimed PlayStation video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us is written and executive produced by Emmy-winner Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) along with Naughty Dog video game developer Neil Druckmann. Season 2 will be based on the sequel to the game, which caused quite a stir among fans due to a few surprising story events. However, you never know how much this show will divert away from the original material in only seven episodes.
The Last of Us is set to return in April, on HBO, and will be available to stream on Max.
