Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega Discover the Dark Side of Magical Creatures in A24 Films' New Horror-Comedy "Death of a Unicorn" with Will Poulter, Tea Leoni, and Richard E. Grant - Watch the Trailer!
Imagine this: unicorns exist in our world ... (yeah!) And they happen to possess magical properties capable of curing some of the most devastating diseases. (Oh wow!) If harnessed properly, their horns could be shaved into particles and used in potentially highly profitable pharmaceutical drugs. (Wait, what?)
Now imagine this: you just hit one with your car and dragged the poor unicorn to your billionaire boss's home. After the initial shock, your boss and his rich, spoiled family are eager to exploit its magical properties, while you and your daughter suggest that it might not be the best course of action right now. And wouldn't you know it, you might be right, because it turns out Mama unicorn is just outside the premises — and she's very angry.
Well, this is the basis of the highly fantastical premise behind the upcoming darkly satirical unicorn comedy Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega as a father and daughter who accidentally hit a unicorn with their car while on their way to visit the father's billionaire boss (played by Richard E. Grant).
The premise is straightforward: a dying unicorn is discovered at the estate of a very wealthy family, who quickly realize that this magical creature might just be their Golden Goose. The only problem is, the movie isn't just a comedy — it's also a horror, as a large and furious Mama unicorn comes looking for some bloody revenge.
The film, which also co-stars Will Poulter, Tea Leoni, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Steve Park, and Jessica Hynes, is written, directed, and produced by Alex Scharfman.
This marks Scharfman's debut as a writer-director, having previously gained experience as a producer on several acclaimed indie films, including Blow the Man Down (2019), Resurrection (2022), and House of Spoils (2024).
Death of a Unicorn is coming to theaters sometime in Spring 2025, courtesy of A24 Films. Watch the official trailer, above.
