"NONNAS" Trailer: Vince Vaughn Gets Caught in the Chaos of Italian Grandmothers (Talia Shire, Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, and Brenda Vaccaro) in This Heartfelt Netflix Comedy
In this Netflix film, Vaughn stars as a restaurateur trying to manage a group of opinionated grandmothers with a passion for cooking, leading to a deliciously funny kitchen disaster.
Nothing can conjure up warm memories and feelings faster than a hot plate of food made with nothing but love and care. Whether it's a family recipe passed down through generations or a simple dish whipped up on the fly, the comfort that comes with food is unmatched. There’s just something magical about food that can bring people together to enjoy a shared experience, one bite at a time.
Now imagine a cozy little restaurant where the food has been expertly served up by a kitchen filled with Italian grandmothers. Well, the food practically sells itself. The problem, however, could lie in how to manage these strong-willed women as they fight and bicker over which dishes they will prepare and cook, each one convinced their version of the recipe is the best.
Vince Vaughn finds himself in such a scenario in the new heartfelt Netflix comedy NONNAS, where he plays an amateur restaurateur with a grand vision of opening an Italian restaurant to honor his recently departed mother (his “nonna”). He comes up with a brilliant idea of employing a group of local Italian grandmothers as chefs for his restaurant. What he didn’t realize, however, is that the ladies all have strong opinions (and even stronger personalities) about how things should be done. It’s all become a recipe for a kitchen nightmare. But if they can somehow work out their issues, it could also be a recipe for huge success.
Based on a true story of Brooklyn ex-MTA worker-turned-novice restaurant owner Joe Scaravella (portrayed by Vaughn), the film features Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise, Dead Man Walking), Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas, The Sopranos), Brenda Vaccaro (Midnight Cowboy, Once Is Not Enough), and Talia Shire (Rocky, The Godfather) as the four grandmothers hired to work their magic in the kitchen.
The cast also includes Joe Manganiello, Linda Cardellini, Michael Rispoli, and Drea de Matteo.
The upcoming film is helmed by Stephen Chbosky, the director of Wonder and Dear Evan Hansen, but is perhaps best known for his directorial debut, the hit coming-of-age teen drama The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which was based on his own best-selling novel. Chbosky directed from a script penned by Liz Maccie.
NONNAS will be premiering on Netflix May 9th.
