Sonequa Martin-Green and Natalie Morales Star in "My Dead Friend Zoe," Darkly Comic Military Drama About PTSD and Friendship, Co-starring Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman - Watch the Trailer!
Check out the official trailer for the new military drama "My Dead Friend Zoe," marking the feature film debut of writer-director Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, who is also a US Army vet.
The film, featuring a stacked ensemble cast led by Sonequa Martin-Green, Natalie Morales, Oscar nominee Ed Harris, and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, is based on the director's acclaimed short film "Merit x Zoe." Hausmann-Stokes has also made several shorts focusing on veteran issues, including "Veterans for Gun Reform PSA," "Meals Ready to Eat," and "It Matters."
This darkly comedic drama centers on Merit (played by Sonequa Martin-Green), an Afghanistan veteran who returns home after multiple tours, only to confront a severe case of PTSD. Her best friend, Zoe (played by Natalie Morales), Merit's closest army buddy, re-appears in her life despite having been killed in Afghanistan. As Merit struggles with the reality of seeing and communicating with her deceased friend, she also tries to reintegrate into civilian life and repair her fractured relationship with her Vietnam vet grandfather (played by Ed Harris), who is also battling his own PTSD for decades.
Co-starring Gloria Reuben and Utkarsh Ambudkar, "My Dead Friend Zoe" premiered earlier this year at the SXSW Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award and garnered positive reviews from critics.
"My Dead Friend Zoe" is slated to open in theaters on February 28th. Watch the trailer above.
