Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun Star in a Sci-Fi Romance Between a Satellite and a Buoy! Watch the Trailer for "Love Me"
A buoy and a satellite find love in Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun’s quirky sci-fi romance set on a post-human Earth.
It's a simple love story between a buoy and a satellite. Now, that might sound like the setup for an unfunny joke, but this is told with great emotional honesty in this new science-fiction romantic drama starring Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun. Watch the newly released trailer, lest you think we're not serious about the existence of this new film that delves into the idea of love and what makes us yearn for it so much.
Love Me at times feels like a quirky offshoot of something like Wall-E, set in the distant future long after the extinction of the human race. Earth has become a wasteland of discarded material such as computer-operated satellites and A.I.-controlled buoys. Among all this riff-raff, an unlikely love story emerges where a lonely floating satellite (Steven Yeun) starts to communicate and form a romantic bond with a simple ocean-bound buoy (Kristen Stewart) through an internet connection. Again, this sounds like some kind of joke, but we assure you this is a real movie that will be coming out later this month in theaters.
The film marks the feature debut of writers-directors Sam and Andy Zuchero, a husband-and-wife filmmaking team from Topanga, California, who have been making movies and art projects together since they were teens. (Now, that sounds like a great love story too.)
Given the subject matter of the film, dealing with post-apocalyptic themes and a science-fiction background, the filmmaking couple was awarded the annual Alfred P. Sloan Prize at Sundance last year, where Love Me made its world premiere. The award is given to indie films dealing with science fiction and technology. Apparently, Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun not only play the human avatars of the buoy and satellite in the film but also provided the motion capture for the animated parts, depicting their characters as social media characters as well as the physical form of the buoy and satellite.
