"Locked" Official Trailer: A Car Thief's Worst Nightmare Comes True in This Twisted Thriller Starring Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins
Anthony Hopkins voices a twisted vigilante in this high-stakes car thriller, where luxury turns lethal, from producer Sam Raimi and starring Bill Skarsgård.
What would be the worst thing that could happen to a carjacker? The thief could be caught red-handed—that would be pretty bad. Maybe the thief would accidentally break into a police vehicle or a car belonging to a cop without knowing it? That would be pretty bad too. But what if a car thief breaks into a vehicle and gets a little “taste of hell”? Well, it would be a nightmare for the thief, but it could be quite entertaining to watch someone get a taste of their own medicine—even if things go darker and more extreme than they expect.
Locked, a new car thriller, comes from the production of filmmaker Sam Raimi, and as you'd expect from the guy who gave us the Evil Dead franchise and more recently produced the Don't Breathe films, it's a deliciously twisted ride. In this thriller, a car thief gets more than he bargained for when he breaks into a car, only to discover it's a trap that quickly turns into a locked cage.
Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu, Barbarian, IT Chapter 1 & 2) stars as the unfortunate lowly carjacker who finds himself in a terrifying situation after breaking into a car, only to realize there's no way of getting out. Despite his pleas for help and full surrender, he embarks on a wild ride as the car is remotely controlled by its mysterious owner, who has set up this complicated trap just for this very moment. It’s all been a plan to catch robbers red-handed and teach them a lesson. But how far must one go to make the point? Is torture in the cards?
Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins co-stars in the film, mainly providing the voice behind the car's audio system. As seen in this newly released trailer for the upcoming thriller, Hopkins talks to Skarsgård's character, introducing himself as William, the owner of the car he just tried to steal. "Thou shalt not steal," he proclaims before switching the car's seats into tase mode, shocking electrodes into the thief's backside. William really did think of everything.
"Now I have invested a lot of time and money in this project," William reveals. "The walls are bulletproof. I've also jammed the cellular." To which Skarsgård's character responds by asking William if he’s going to let him die in this locked car. William quickly replies with an evil twang in his voice, "Let you die? You've got to be kidding me, I wouldn’t want to ruin all the fun." Obviously, Hopkins is playing a character named William, but the car might as well belong to Hannibal Lecter.
David Yarovesky directs the film. Yarovesky is best known for helming the James Gunn-produced evil superhero horror film Brightburn. His last film was Netflix's 2021 kid fantasy-horror adventure Nightbooks, featuring Krysten Ritter as a witch who kidnaps and imprisons a book-obsessed boy. Meanwhile, the thriller is written by Michael Arlen Ross (Turistas).
Here's the film's official synopsis:
From producer Sam Raimi comes a relentless horror-thriller where luxury becomes deadly. When Eddie (Bill Skarsgård) breaks into a luxury SUV, he steps into a deadly trap set by William (Anthony Hopkins), a self-proclaimed vigilante delivering his own brand of twisted justice. With no means of escape, Eddie must fight to survive in a ride where escape is an illusion, survival is a nightmare, and justice shifts into high gear.
Locked is scheduled to open theaters on March 21st. Watch the trailer, above.
