Kaitlyn Dever Stars as Disgraced Wellness Influencer Belle Gibson in First Teaser for Netflix's New Australian Series "Apple Cider Vinegar"
Netflix has released the official teaser for "Apple Cider Vinegar," a new Netflix limited series starring Emmy-nominated actress Kaitlyn Dever ("Dopesick," "Unbelievable") as Belle Gibson, an Australian pseudoscience health advocate who used her personal trauma of being diagnosed with brain cancer to build her own wellness empire, complete with motivational speaking events, books, social media posts, apps, and personal appearances, only to be exposed for lying about having cancer at all.
Created by award-winning Australian writer Samantha Strauss ("Nine Perfect Strangers," "The End," "Dance Academy"), who also co-wrote along with writers Anya Beyersdorf ("The Twelve," "Fake") and Angela Betzien ("Total Control"), the series follows the rise and fall of Belle Gibson and her "The Whole Pantry" wellness campaign. Gibson falsely claimed to have brain cancer, using that story to sell herself as a young health advocate who promoted natural therapies for cancer treatment, fertility, depression, and other serious ailments. During the early days of Instagram, Gibson reinvented herself as a social media influencer, gaining enough followers to build a profitable empire based on lies and misinformation.
Dever dons an Australian accent to portray Belle Gibson. Meanwhile, Alycia Debnam-Carey ("It's What's Inside," "Fear The Walking Dead") stars as Milla Blake, a young woman who promotes the power of food to fight cancer. Aisha Dee ("The Bold Type," "Safe Home") plays Milla's close friend Chanelle, who meets Belle at an event and begins working with her on her growing business.
Other cast members include Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Mark Coles Smith, Ashley Zukerman, Susie Porter, Matt Nable, Phoenix Raei, Chai Hansen, Richard Davies, Essie Davis, Kieran Darcy-Smith, and Catherine McClements.
Directed by Jeffrey Walker ("The Portable Door," "The Artful Dodger"), "Apple Cider Vinegar" will be coming soon to Netflix. Watch the teaser, above.
