Julia Stiles Directs Isabelle Fuhrman and Mena Massoud in a New Romantic Tearjerker Based on Renee Carlino's Bestselling Novel "Wish You Were Here" - Watch the Trailer!
If you're anything like us, you've had a fondness for Julia Stiles for years now. We still haven't met a person who doesn't like Julia Stiles. How could we not love her after starring in coming-of-age classics like Save the Last Dance and 10 Things I Hate About You? Not to mention, the Bourne Identity films. In fact, we even enjoyed her in the ridiculously silly horror sequel Orphan: First Kill, where Stiles played a mother to a newly adopted orphan girl who turned out to be a full-adult serial killer, played by Isabelle Fuhrman.
Well, it seems Julia Stiles is moving into the next stage of her career — directing! And what do you know, Stiles has reteamed with her Orphan: First Kill co-star Isabelle Fuhrman for a new tear-jerking romantic drama Wish You Were Here, marking Stiles's first time sitting in the director's chair for a feature film.
Based on Renee Carlino's bestselling novel of the same name, Fuhrman stars as a young working waitress named Charlotte who, on a whim, spends the perfect night with a perfect stranger, a mysterious street artist named Adam (played by Mena Massoud, from Aladdin). However, things end on a bad note between Charlotte and Adam, and before they know it, they're both back to their own lives. But fate intervenes, bringing Charlotte and Adam back together. This time, Adam is facing a health crisis, while Charlotte provides the emotional support he so desperately needs.
From the looks of this newly-released trailer (watch it above), Wish You Were Here seems to follow the familiar trend of romantic tearjerkers, where a couple meets, falls in love, but their relationship is tested by a life-altering medical crisis, like a cancer diagnosis. Ah, remember the days when all couples had to worry about was nailing the perfect dance audition, complete with street hip-hop dance moves, to get into Juilliard?
Well, here's the thing: Julia Stiles not only directs, but also wrote the screenplay with author Renee Carlino. The film also features a supporting cast that includes Gabby Kono-Abdy, Jennifer Grey, and Kelsey Grammer.
Wish You Were Here is due to hit theaters on January 17th.
