Jack Black is Expert Crafter, Steve, in "A Minecraft Movie," Live-Action Adaptation of the Best-Selling Video Game with Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, and Emma Myer - Watch the Trailer!
Jack Black is a "tool bag" in the official trailer for "A Minecraft Movie," the first-ever big-screen, live-action adaptation of the best-selling video game.
Joining Black are Jason Momoa ("Aquaman"), Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks ("The Color Purple"), Sebastian Eugene Hansen ("Lisey's Story"), and breakout star Emma Myers ("Wednesday").
The film brings to life the Minecraft universe, where players in the game explore a virtual sandbox in a vast, three-dimensional world made up of block-shaped elements. In this world of endless terrain, players can gather raw materials and use tools to "craft" their own structures, machines, and creations.
In the upcoming movie, four misfits -- Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) -- are unexpectedly transported through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a strange, cubic wonderland of imagination. To find their way back home, they must master the world of Minecraft with the help of Steve (Jack Black), an expert crafter with a deep knowledge of the game's rules and mechanics.
The cast also includes Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement.
The film is directed by Jared Hess, of "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Nacho Libre" fame. This marks Hess's first live-action film in eight years, following the 2016 crime comedy "Masterminds," which starred Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson, and Kristen Wiig. Earlier this summer, Hess made his return by co-directing the Netflix animated musical comedy "Thelma the Unicorn."
"A Minecraft Movie" is set to hit theaters next year on April 4, 2025. Watch the trailer above. And watch the previously released teaser, below.
