"I Don’t Understand You" Trailer: Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells Stumble Through a Vacation Full of Accidental Murders in This New Dark Comedy
A gay couple’s Italian getaway turns into a chaotic series of misadventures as they unintentionally find themselves covering up a trail of bodies.
How many accidental murders does it take before one must ask themselves, maybe I’m the problem, maybe there’s something wrong with me to attract so much bad luck?
Sadly, Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells never get to that level of honest self-reflection in this trailer for I Don’t Understand You, a new dark slapstick comedy about a gay couple's vacation in Italy going terribly wrong when bodies start dropping around them.
What begins as a picturesque getaway quickly spirals into a chaotic series of misadventures, leaving the couple, Dom and Cole (Kroll and Rannells), to navigate not only their relationship but also an unexpected trail of bodies.
While expecting their first child together through adoption (Amanda Seyfried co-stars as the mother-to-be), Dom and Cole are informed that the baby is coming sooner than expected. The only problem? They're stuck in Italy, caught in an escalating, tense situation.
The couple finds themselves covering up a dead body from an accidental death they only happened to witness. Of course, they had no part in it, but now they're caught in a domino effect, where more accidental deaths just keep happening around them. As they try to cover up each new mishap, their idyllic Italian vacation turns into a darkly comedic nightmare, where one mistake leads to another, and one death leads to more deaths.
Which prompts the question, are Dom and Cole really this clueless, or is their absurd string of bad luck just a result of their utter arrogance and naivety?
Co-starring Morgan Spector (The Gilded Age) and Eleonora Romandini (The White Lotus: Season 2), the comedy hails from the writing-and-directing team of David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano.
Craig is an actor known for his role in Boy Erased, while Crano is an indie filmmaker recognized for the 2011 comedy A Bag of Hammers. The real-life married couple is making their debut as a filmmaking team, although Craig previously costarred in Crano's 2017 romantic drama Permission, which also starred Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens and Morgan Spector.
I Don't Understand You premiered to mostly positive reviews last year at SXSW. It is now set to open in theaters on June 6th. Watch the trailer, above.
Official Synopsis:
Dom (Nick Kroll) and Cole (Andrew Rannells), a couple on the verge of adopting a baby, embark on an Italian vacation — the perfect opportunity to reconnect before the new addition arrives. Everything is picture-perfect, the epitome of a European babymoon, when things begin to spiral out of control. Lost on the way to dinner, their car gets stuck in a ditch, leaving them stranded in rural nowhere during a torrential downpour. These two Americans, who are used to being catered to, are now in a foreign land with no cell service, zero comprehension of the Italian language, and, as fear takes over, escalating turmoil that could explode at any moment.
