Camp Counselors Face a Killer in Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk's Slasher Comedy "Hell of a Summer," Starring Fred Hechinger - Watch the Redband Trailer!
Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard & Billy Bryk Write and Direct this New Summer Camp Horror Comedy, Starring Fred Hechinger as a Camp Counselor Facing a Mysterious Slasher
For most people, Finn Wolfhard is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Mike Wheeler on the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. Since breaking out from that show, he’s gone on to star in the two recent Ghostbusters installments: Afterlife and Frozen Empire, as well as playing a lowly NBC page in Jason Reitman's SNL movie Saturday Night. Some might not know, however, that Wolfhard is also known for touring around in a rock band or two, singing and playing the guitar. And just when you thought you couldn't get more jealous of a kid this young, Wolfhard has now debuted as a director—with a slasher comedy, no less. Damn you, Wolfhard, damn you to hell!
Get a taste of Wolfhard's talents behind the camera with the first trailer for Hell of a Summer! It’s a horror comedy set at a summer camp for teens. Wolfhard shares directing and writing credits with fellow Canadian actor Billy Bryk. Together, they make their feature film debut—and, of course, they also co-star in the film.
The real star of the film, however, is Fred Hechinger, who has been coming up in recent years as a considerable acting talent. Someone to watch. Hechinger just played one half of the terrible twin emperors in Ridley Scott's epic Gladiator II. He’s also shown a great deal of nuance as the grandson of June Squibb's character in the heart-warming grandma-on-the-loose comedy Thelma. Hechinger is also known for playing Steve Zahn and Connie Britton's socially-detached son in the first season of The White Lotus. He also dabbled with the slasher genre before with the Netflix Fear Street film trilogy.
In Hell of a Summer, Hechinger plays Jason, an overly eager camp counselor who, despite being a bit too old for the job, remains as passionate as ever about working at the summer camp for teens. Settling into his usual routine, Jason quickly finds himself alienated by the other counselors, who are more interested in casual hookups than his enthusiasm for activities. However, the atmosphere takes a dark turn when a mysterious slasher begins terrorizing the camp. As the counselors are picked off one by one, Jason becomes the prime suspect. Undeterred, he continues to rally his fellow counselors, determined to unite them in the fight for survival.
Joining Hechinger in the cast are Abby Quinn (Knock at the Cabin), D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Reservation Dogs), Pardis Saremi (Death and Other Details), Krista Nazaire (The Hardy Boys), Rosebud Baker (Life & Beth), and Adam Pally (The Mindy Project). Writers-directors Billy Bryk and Finn Wolfhard also co-star.
Hell of a Summer premiered back in the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. The film is now getting a theatrical release set for April 18th, courtesy of Neon Films.
