"Happy Gilmore 2" Teaser Trailer: Adam Sandler Returns to the Green for a Long-Awaited Sequel
After 30 years, Happy Gilmore is back for one last shot at glory—alongside familiar faces and surprise cameos.
We've started to notice a new trend when it comes to long-awaited sequels to classic films featuring Hollywood stars of a certain age. One: it's always about returning to what made them a star in the first place. And two: they’re out to prove that they’ve still got it—and that they’re better than anyone else out there—despite any insecurities they might have.
Well, that certainly applies to Adam Sandler, who returns this year with Happy Gilmore 2. It’s been 30 years since Sandler first took on the role of Happy Gilmore, a failed hockey player who turned his powerful slapshot into a killer golf swing and became an unlikely PGA champion.
In this upcoming Netflix sequel, Happy has been happily enjoying retirement, having built a loving family with his longtime sweetheart, Virginia Venit (once again played by Julie Bowen). But something calls him back to the green, forcing him to pick up his clubs once more and prove to the world that he’s still got what it takes—not just to make a comeback, but to reclaim his place as a golf champion.
This time, Happy Gilmore 2 is directed by Workaholics co-creator Kyle Newacheck, who previously collaborated with Sandler on the 2019 Netflix hit Murder Mystery. Newacheck has an established relationship with Netflix, having also directed and co-written the Workaholics-related action-comedy Game Over, Man! He has also earned accolades for his producing and directing work on the hit FX comedy series What We Do in the Shadows.
The sequel not only reunites Adam Sandler and Julie Bowen as Happy and Virginia but also brings back a few fan favorites for guest appearances, including Allen Covert as Happy’s trusty (and still very much homeless) former caddy, Otto, and Dennis Dugan—the director of the original film—returning in the role of golf commissioner Doug Thompson.
But perhaps most exciting for fans, the upcoming sequel also marks the return of Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, Happy’s longtime nemesis on the green.
And it wouldn’t be a Happy Madison production without its fair share of big-name cameos—so expect plenty of famous faces. Pro-golf stars John Daly, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris all make appearances.
Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (aka rapper Bad Bunny) joins the cast as Happy’s new caddie, while NFL star Travis Kelce also pops up alongside model Paige Spiranac, sportscaster Dan Patrick, and comedian Ben Stiller. Other notable appearances include Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, Scott Mescudi, Kym Whitley, Nick Swardson, and Blake Clark. And, naturally, Sandler’s own daughters, Sadie and Sunny Sandler, will play Happy’s daughters in the film.
But if that wasn’t enough, there’s even a rumored cameo from rapper Eminem.
Happy Gilmore 2 is set to debut this summer, starting July 25th only on Netflix. Watch the newly-released teaser trailer, above.
