Gerard Butler Goes from Corrupt Cop to Criminal in Trailer for Crime-Thriller Sequel "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" with O'Shea Jackson Jr.
When "Den of Thieves" opened in theaters back in 2018, it made a decent amount of money, but most critics shrugged it off, labeling it a "Heat" knock-off. Fast forward to 2024: the movie has been streaming on various platforms and cable networks for years and has become a bona fide cult hit. With a recent shortage of truly great crime thrillers, a "Heat" knock-off might just be good enough these days. Thus, "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera," a sequel to the 2018 action-heist thriller, sees Gerard Butler back as 'Big Nick' O'Brien, a hard-charging L.A. police detective who plays by his own rules, even if it means bending the law to serve his own agenda.
O'Shea Jackson Jr. reprises his role as Donnie Wilson, a career criminal now caught up in the dangerous world of diamond thieves in Europe. Since Donnie was the "one who got away" from the events of the original film, Big Nick is actively tracking him down, despite being kicked off the L.A. police force. But Big Nick has a plan: he will transition from a corrupt cop who kills bad guys to becoming a criminal himself, forcing Donnie to partner with him as he infiltrates the notorious Panther Mafia.
"Den of Thieves 2" is written and directed by Christian Gudegast, the filmmaker behind the original "Den" film. The sequel also stars Swedish actress Evin Ahmad, known for the Swedish crime thriller series "Snabba Cash" and the Netflix action series "Who Is Erin Carter?"
"Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" is coming to theaters early next year, opening on January 10, 2025. Watch the trailer above.
