Foreign Film Trailers: Renate Reinsve's Provocative School Incident Drama "Armand" and Danish Heist Thriller "The Quiet Ones"
Renate Reinsve Stars as a Mother in Denial in Trailer for New Provocative Norwegian Drama-Thriller "Armand" -- In U.S. Theaters in Feb. 7
Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve broke out onto the international stage with her role in Joachim Trier's critically acclaimed generational relationship drama The Worst Person in the World. She portrayed a young woman navigating her life and the complexities of a budding romance between two men from different generations. Since then, Reinsve has continued to expand her career, acting alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Apple’s legal thriller series Presumed Innocent. She also recently starred with Sebastian Stan and Adam Pearson in the award-buzzed surrealist drama A Different Man. Now, Reinsve stretches her acting chops once again in the unsettling Norwegian drama-thriller Armand, where she plays a young mother refusing to take accusations about her son seriously.
Written and directed by Halfdan Ullmann Tondel, the grandson of legendary Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman and Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann, who makes his feature film debut, Armand revolves around a school incident—a confrontation between two 6-year-old boys, where parents of both children are called in to address the issue. A dispute between parents occurs at the school once the story veers into a serious accusation of abuse between the schoolmates.
Reinsve plays the mother whose child has been accused of this serious allegation. It's something that she doesn't believe her son could do—and perhaps, it's something she doesn't want to believe.
The film is described as an audacious and provocative portrait of parental accountability. It also takes bold steps as it veers into surrealism and absurdity, complete with dance sequences.
Armand received strong reviews after premiering at last year's Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Camera d'Or Award for best first feature film. Co-starring Ellen Dorrit Petersen and Øystein Roger, Armand arrives in U.S. theaters on February 7th.
An Ambitious Heist Spirals into Chaos in New Tense Danish Crime Thriller "The Quiet Ones" Inspired by One of the Biggest Heists in Denmark’s History -- In theaters and VOD on Feb. 21
Look, when we think of intense crime thrillers, thrillingly raw and immersive, we can't help but think of the long history of American crime cinema from masters like Michael Mann, Don Siegel, William Friedkin, and Sam Peckinpah. But that doesn't mean we can't find intense crime flicks outside of the U.S. Case in point: The Quiet Ones.
This new Danish crime thriller, inspired by true events, revolves around one of the largest robberies in Denmark's history. Featuring an ensemble cast, including French-Algerian actor Reda Kateb (A Prophet), Danish actor Gustav Giese (Riders of Justice), and Danish actress Amanda Collin (Raised by Wolves), the film follows a group of ambitious, determined robbers united by a single, impossible goal: to steal "fifty quiet ones" from a highly secure bank depot in Copenhagen. The heist requires meticulous planning and flawless execution, but as with all great heists, things inevitably spiral out of control.
Directed by Frederik Louis Hviid (Enforcement) and written by Anders Frithiof August (A Fortunate Man), The Quiet Ones delves into the lives of the robbers as they meticulously plan their operation, each motivated by their personal reasons.
The Quiet Ones will be released in U.S. theaters on February 21st and will also be available on VOD.
