After a mix-up with extraterrestrials, Elio must prove he’s the right human for the job—before it’s too late.
There are some boys who are crazy about superheroes, some obsessed with dinosaurs, and others who are a little too preoccupied with cowboys, sports stars, or video games.
But for Elio—well, he has a deep fascination with UFOs. He dreams of the day aliens might fly over his home, beam him up, and take him aboard their spaceship. Well, Elio, be careful what you wish for—because sometimes, wishes have a way of coming true.

Pixar animator Adrian Molina, best known for co-directing and writing the global hit Coco, spearheads this new animated adventure-comedy about a young, space-obsessed boy named Elio Solis (voiced by Yonas Kibreab, from Netflix’s Sweet Tooth).
Having always loved UFOs and dreamed of being abducted by aliens, Elio’s wild imagination suddenly becomes a reality when he’s accidentally transported to outer space. But things take an unexpected turn when he’s mistaken for one of Earth’s great leaders and thrust into an intergalactic alien congress where the fate of the planet hangs in the balance.
Now, Elio must step up and represent Earth on behalf of humanity. And who better to do that than a young, enthusiastic boy? Really, what’s the worst that could happen?
Molina co-directs the Pixar film alongside Domee Shi (Turning Red) and Madeline Sharafian (Burrow).
Fresh off her Oscar win, Zoe Saldana (Emilia Pérez, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avatar) lends her voice to Olga, Elio's aunt, while British actress Jameela Jamil (The Good Place) voices the poised Ambassador Questa, and comedian Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond) brings his signature humor to Ambassador Grigon.
The voice cast is rounded out by Remy Edgerly and Shirley Henderson.
Elio follows last year’s Pixar mega-blockbuster Inside Out 2, which became the highest-grossing American animated film of all time.
That’s an extremely high bar for Elio to clear, so a more modest box office showing is expected when it lands in theaters this summer, starting June 20th.
Here’s the official synopsis:
This summer, moviegoers will meet Elio, an 11-year-old whose biggest wish is to get abducted by aliens, as well as his Aunt Olga (voiced by recent Academy Award Winner, Zoe Saldaña), and Glordon, Elio’s unexpected first friend who happens to be an alien.
In this big-screen adventure, Elio will travel millions of miles across the universe encountering and a host of out-of-this world creatures who just might help him figure out exactly where he belongs.
For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers—in Disney and Pixar’s all-new feature film “Elio,” the universe calls back! The cosmic misadventure introduces Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession. So, when he’s beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio’s all in for the epic undertaking.
Mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who and where he is truly meant to be.
