Raul Castillo, Tony Cavalero, and Melonie Diaz Lead a Tense Home Invasion in the Trailer for the New Crypto Heist Thriller "Cold Wallet"
Steven Soderbergh Presents: Raul Castillo and Melonie Diaz Plot a High-Stakes Crypto Heist in New Home Invasion Thriller
With the rise of the dark web and cryptocurrency, the nature of crime is evolving faster than we can keep up. In that sense, home invasions are no longer what they used to be. Jewelry and family heirlooms aren’t the prime targets anymore, especially when a small USB drive filled with bitcoin can be worth ten times more than diamonds, sterling silverware, or Fabergé eggs combined.
Cold Wallet, a new crime thriller starring Raul Castillo (Smile 2, Army of the Dead), Tony Cavalero (The Righteous Gemstones), and Melonie Diaz (CW's Charmed), takes the home invasion subgenre and thrusts it into the tech age, where crypto is the new loot to steal.
Castillo, Cavalero, and Diaz star as three would-be thieves who, facing a sudden financial crisis, hatch a plan to break into the mansion of a financial social media influencer (played by Josh Brener). Their goal is to take him hostage and force him to reveal the password to an encrypted USB drive filled with cryptocurrency. However, they quickly realize that digital loot might prove to be far harder to steal than physical valuables.
Filmmaker Cutter Hodierne (Fishing Without Nets) directs the film, while John Hibey wrote the screenplay. Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh lends his name to the promotion as he "presents" the film.
Cold Wallet premiered last year at the South by Southwest Film Festival, earning strong reactions from critics. The film is coming to theaters and on VOD on February 28th. Watch the trailer above.
