"Clown in a Cornfield" Full Trailer: A Killer Clown Targets Teens in Eli Craig’s Darkly Comic Horror Slasher Starring Katie Douglas
Katie Douglas stars in this blood-soaked horror-comedy where a small-town legend comes to life—with a sickle and a thirst for teen carnage.
Welcome to Kettle Springs, a small farming town in Missouri where nothing really happens... except for the occasional appearance of a psychopathic clown who runs around slashing teens with a large, rusted, blood-stained sickle. But other than that, it’s a great place to visit—just don’t stay out after dark. And definitely stay away from those cornfields.
Clown in a Cornfield, a new darkly comedic slasher horror that just premiered to mostly positive reviews at SXSW earlier this month, introduces a terrifying new jester who wreaks havoc on teens who foolishly thought they were immune to the creepy local legend of “Friendo.” But they quickly learn—he’s no friendo of any kind.
Katie Douglas (Ginny & Georgia) stars as Quinn Maybrook, a teen girl who’s just moved to Kettle Springs with her father from the big city. As the new girl in town, Quinn becomes an easy target for local teens, who tease her with stories about Friendo—the evil killer clown said to haunt the cornfields of the town’s corn syrup farm. But what starts as a harmless prank soon spirals into a full-blown nightmare when Friendo (or someone dressed like him) emerges from the stalks and begins picking off teens one by one.
Now the group must survive a murderous night of brutal butchery and live long enough for the authorities to arrive. First hurdle? They’ve got to figure out how to dial 911 on a rotary phone—which is way harder than it sounds when you’ve lived your whole life on smartphones.
Clown in a Cornfield is the latest horror film from Eli Craig, the writer-director behind the 2010 cult favorite Tucker and Dale vs Evil, the splatter comedy that flipped the hillbilly horror trope on its head with Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine as misunderstood good ol’ boys.
Craig, who also happens to be the son of Oscar-winner Sally Field, returned in 2017 with the Netflix horror spoof Little Evil, starring Adam Scott and Evangeline Lilly. Clown in a Cornfield marks Craig’s third horror feature.
Also starring Carson MacCormac (Shazam!), Aaron Abrams (Blindspot), comedian Will Sasso (MadTV), and the always reliable Kevin Durand (Abigail, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) as the town’s mayor, Clown in a Cornfield is based on Adam Cesare’s award-winning YA horror novel.
The film hits theaters May 9th, followed by an exclusive streaming release on Shudder later this year. Watch the full trailer, above.
