"Another Simple Favor" Teaser Trailer: Blake Lively’s Emily Nelson is Back and Ready for Revenge in This Sequel with Anna Kendrick

No, that’s not a comment on any recent headlines or PR drama—we’re simply talking about the return of Lively’s delightfully duplicitous Emily Nelson in the upcoming sequel Another Simple Favor. And this time, Emily finds herself wrapped up in another murder mystery—only now, the setting is the idyllic island of Capri, Italy.

Amazon Studios has released the first official teaser trailer for the sequel to the twisty, darkly comedic thriller A Simple Favor, which became a sleeper hit back in 2018. It was a much-needed win for director Paul Feig, who was coming off the Ghostbusters debacle. And after building a strong reputation as a director of female-led comedies, Feig proved he could jump into the murder mystery craze early, showing off a few more tricks in his bag.

Now, Feig is back to stir up more stylish deception in this highly anticipated sequel, once again starring Anna Kendrick as Stephanie Smothers, the single-mommy vlogger-turned-author. After solving the disappearance of the sophisticated yet scheming PR executive Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) in the first film, Stephanie has turned her story into a best-selling true-crime novel, detailing the twists and turns of the case that led to Emily’s arrest and imprisonment.

But as we all know—Emily Nelson is not the kind of woman who stays gone for long.

It seems Emily is now out of prison, perhaps a changed woman (or maybe not, who knows?), and she’s about to marry a new man in a lavish wedding in Italy. And guess who has just been invited to be her maid-of-honor? Stephanie Smothers—the woman who arguably destroyed her life.

So, is this an elaborate payback scheme? A ruthless revenge plot she’s keeping close to the chest? Or does she genuinely want to put the past behind her?

Again, we’re just talking about Blake Lively’s character Emily Nelson here. Not Blake specifically.

Whatever the case, it looks like Emily and Stephanie are once again caught up in another deliciously scandalous affair—one filled with intrigue, deception, and, no doubt, a few deadly surprises.

A Simple Favor scribe Jessica Sharzer returns to pen the sequel, this time teaming up with screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis (Alita: Battle Angel, Shutter Island). The first film was based on mystery author Darcey Bell’s debut novel of the same name.

Another Simple Favor is scheduled to stream on May 1 on Prime Video. The film will also make its world premiere in March at the SXSW Film Festival.

Meanwhile, A Simple Favor is currently available to stream on Netflix and, of course, available to rent or buy on Prime.
