Jason Statham Is a Blue-Collar Avenger in New Action Thriller "A Working Man," From 'The Beekeeper' Director David Ayer — Watch the First Trailer
Jason Statham and David Ayer Reunite for Brutal Action Revenge Thriller Based on Chuck Dixon's 'Levon's Trade' Novel
People gave director David Ayer a lot of shit for his 2016 DC supervillain team-up Suicide Squad, which, admittedly, didn’t live up to the hype but still had its merits, if you ask us. Then came talk of an Ayer's cut after debates over studio interference, unnecessary mandates, and unwarranted reshoots. Nevertheless, the fog of disappointment has cleared, and it seems Ayer has finally moved on. Not before saying, screw it! I’m just gonna make some bare-bones, knuckle-busting blue-collar revenge action films from now on. And they're going to star Jason Statham, because who else is bad-ass enough to take on that task?
And you know what? We can't think of a better path for David Ayer to take, and we definitely can't think of a better director for Jason Statham to hitch his wagon to—and vice versa. They make the perfect duo to bring back the glory days of tough-guy action cinema. You know, the movies where a gruff loner with a shady military background rolls into town, working various jobs around the city, only to find himself tangled up in the dirty business of a criminal network. He must fight his way out, not only to save himself but also to protect the innocent who got caught up in the underbelly of the city.
Now, if you’re thinking to yourself, "Well, didn’t Jason Statham and director David Ayer just do that movie last year with The Beekeeper?" Well, you’re not wrong. But that didn’t stop Statham and Ayer from doing it again with their latest outing, A Working Man.
The trailer is here to rock your socks off. And sure, while watching, you might start thinking, "Wait, is this a sequel to The Beekeeper?" I mean, Jason Statham looks exactly like what he was wearing in that movie—could this be the same character? Well, we’re here to tell you, no... we think it’s not. We had to look it up, and after searching the web, yep, this is not a Beekeeper sequel. This is actually a new action film based on the 2014 action-revenge novel Levon's Trade by comic book writer Chuck Dixon.
In this new flick, Statham plays Levon Cade, a former black ops agent who now works odd jobs on construction sites, trying to lay low and stay far away from his violent past. But, as things tend to go, he’s forced to tap into his killer instincts—and more importantly, his lethal skills—when his boss’s daughter is kidnapped by some very bad people. Tasked with a mission that hits close to home (he's close with his boss and his daughter), Levon Cade unleashes hell, blazing a bloody path of vengeance.
Now, if you’re thinking, "Well, that sounds a lot like an old-school '80s vigilante movie that would’ve starred Sylvester Stallone," well, surprise! Stallone actually wrote the screenplay, as the project was originally developed at his production company. David Ayer then came onboard to polish the script, and soon after, Jason Statham was attached. And now, here we are.
A Working Man also stars Michael Peña, David Harbour, and Jason Flemyng, with Arianna Rivas, Noemi Gonzalez, Eve Mauro, and Emmett J. Scanlan. The film is set to hit theaters on March 28th, via Amazon MGM Studios, and will also stream on Prime Video following its theatrical run.
