Come next spring, Woody Harrelson could be up for Father of the Year -- unless, of course, he ends up ruining his chances of forming a real relationship with his long-lost teenage daughter.

Check out the newly-released red band trailer for Harrelson's upcoming R-rated comedy "Wilson," in which he stars as a potty-mouthed curmudgeon, who has only recently discovered that his ex-wife (played by Laura Dern) had secretly put their daughter up for adoption 17 years ago.

Based on the graphic novel by comic-book creator Daniel Clowes (Ghost World, Art School Confidential), the film tells the story of Wilson (Harrelson), a lonely, middle-aged man struggling to find a human connection. After deciding to track down his ex-wife (Dern) in the hope of a reconciliation, Wilson discovers that he is the father of a teenage daughter, who unfortunately seems to have inherited his sad outlook on life.

"Wilson" is directed by Craig Johnson, who previously helmed and co-wrote the 2014 critically-acclaimed dramedy "The Skeleton Twins" with Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader. The film is currently slated to open in theaters on March 24, 2017.

synopsis:
Woody Harrelson stars as Wilson, a lonely, neurotic and hilariously honest middle-aged misanthrope who reunites with his estranged wife (Laura Dern) and gets a shot at happiness when he learns he has a teenage daughter (Isabella Amara) he has never met. In his uniquely outrageous and slightly twisted way, he sets out to connect with her.
