Jake Gyllenhaal is one of six astronauts who discover a mysterious alien life force in the newly-released trailer for next year's space-set thriller "Life," which also stars "Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds and "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" actress Rebecca Ferguson.

With much of the action taking place inside a spacecraft, the upcoming film focuses on an international space station crew who are the first humans to uncover a single-cell organism from Mars -- which, of course, turns out to be a very dangerous alien being. Think Alien meets Gravity.

In addition to Gyllenhaal, Reynolds, and Ferguson, the cast also includes English actor Ariyon Bakare (Jupiter Ascending), Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine), and Russian actress Olga Dihovichnaya (Twilight Portrait).

"Life" is directed by Swedish-born helmer Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Child 44, Easy Money) and was written by Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese, the screenwriting duo behind "Deadpool" and "Zombieland."

The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters March 24, 2017.
