Emile Hirsch and Brian Cox dissect a human cadaver in the new red band trailer for the forthcoming horror thriller "The Autopsy of Jane Doe."

Cox and Hirsch play father-and-son coroners who together run the local morgue and crematorium. One night, after being tasked with determining an unidentified woman's cause of death, they uncover possible clues of ritualistic abuse. The evidence seems to point to the occult or some kind of demon worship. But before they can report their findings, things suddenly take a supernatural turn when their morgue becomes the beacon of some very disturbing paranormal activity.

Andre Ovredal, the Norwegian horror filmmaker behind the cult found-footage monster movie "Trollhunter," directed "The Autopsy of Jane Doe," which last month nabbed the "Best Horror Film" honor at Austin's Fantastic Fest.

The film will be released on VOD December 20 and in theaters December 21.

synopsis:
Experienced coroner Tommy Tilden and his grown-up son Austin run a family-owned morgue and crematorium in Virginia. When the local Sheriff brings in an emergency case -- an unknown female corpse nicknamed 'Jane Doe', found in the basement of a home where a multiple homicide took place -- it seems like just another open-and-shut case. But as the autopsy proceeds, these seasoned professionals are left reeling as each layer of their inspection brings frightening new revelations. Perfectly preserved on the outside, Jane Doe's insides have been scarred, charred and dismembered -- seemingly the victim of a horrific yet mysterious ritualistic torture. As Tommy and Austin begin to piece together these gruesome discoveries, an unnatural force takes hold of the crematorium. While a violent storm rages above ground, it seems the real horrors lie on the inside...
