Veteran character actor John C. McGinley goes from playing a cranky doctor on the cult comedy series "Scrubs" to playing a cranky demon slayer in the new horror-comedy series "Stan Against Evil," which is debuting on the IFC channel.

In a newly-released trailer, we see McGinley as newly widowed Sheriff Stanley Miller who, after being forced into retirement, finds himself partnering up with his replacement (played by You're the Worst's Janet Varney) when their small New England town is suddenly overrun by 172 demonic witches.

The series is created by comedian Dana Gould, who has won two Emmys for producing and writing on "The Simpsons."

In addition to McGinley and Varney, the cast also includes Nate Mooney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Deborah Baker Jr. (2 Broke Girls).

"Stan Against Evil" is slated to air on Wednesday, November 2 on the IFC network with a special premiere set for Halloween Night, Monday, October 31.

synopsis:
Stan Against Evil follows Stan Miller (John C. McGinley), a perpetually disgruntled former sheriff of a small New England town who was forced into retirement. Stan has trouble relinquishing his authority to Evie Barret (Janet Varney), the tough and beautiful new sheriff in town, but they form an unlikely alliance when both begin to realize things are not quite right in their quaint New England town. Together, they valiantly fight a plague of unleashed demons that have been haunting the town, which just happens to be built on the site of a massive 17th century witch burning.
