Oscar-winner Natalie Portman is seen grieving with a heavy, self-inflicted stillness in the first trailer for the much-anticipated Jacqueline Kennedy biopic "Jackie."

In what will likely be an attention-grabbing and quite possibly an Oscar-worthy performance, Portman plays the iconic First Lady in the forthcoming historical drama, which is depicting the aftermath of the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy, as told entirely from the perspective of the President's then-34-year-old wife, Jackie.

The film premiered to glowing reviews last month at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festival, with much of the praise directed at Portman's heart-wrenching performance.

Helmed by Chilean director Pablo Larrain, of the Oscar-nominated '80s-era political drama "No," and written by "The Maze Runner" scribe Noah Oppenheim, "Jackie" also stars Peter Sarsgaard as Robert Kennedy, John Carroll Lynch as Lyndon Johnson, Beth Grant as Ladybird Johnson, and Greta Gerwig as Jackie's closest confidante and secretary, Nancy Tuckerman. Meanwhile, Danish actor Caspar Phillipson is playing JFK. While Billy Crudup, John Hurt, Max Casella, and Richard E. Grant round out the cast.

"Jackie" is due to open in select theaters on December 2.

synopsis:
JACKIE is a searing and intimate portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman). JACKIE places us in her world during the days immediately following her husband's assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husband’s legacy and the world of "Camelot" that they created and loved so well.
