Marsai Martin currently plays the adorable six-year-old daughter of Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross in the hit comedy series "Black-ish." But the young actress is taking on a very serious subject in the upcoming Civil-Rights movie "An American Girl Story - Melody 1963: Love Has to Win."

Martin plays Melody Ellison, a young African American girl living in Detroit who chooses to take a stand against discrimination and bigotry during the height of the Civil-Rights movement.

Produced by the family-oriented doll company, American Girl, and based on the 'Melody Ellison' doll-line, the film also stars Idara Victor (TV's Rizzoli & Isles), Frankie Faison (Marvel's Luke Cage) and Frances Fisher (Titanic).

Directed by Tina Mabry (Queen Sugar) and written by TV writer Alison McDonald (2016's Roots: Part 2), "Melody 1963" will be released exclusively on Amazon Prime, beginning Friday, October 21. Watch the trailer, above.
