Known for having a high-pitched cartoon-like speaking voice, but sang with a rich, powerful timbre, the late '80s and early '90s R&B singer Michel'le was the first female recording artist signed to Eazy-E's Ruthless Records. She also had an extremely volatile and abusive relationship with her producer and then-boyfriend, NWA's Dr. Dre.

Best known for her hit 1989 song "No More Lies," Michel'le is having her life story dramatized in the upcoming Lifetime movie, which chronicles her turbulent years working with Dr. Dre and Suge Knight, both of whom she became romantically involved with, though not at the same time.

Lifetime has recently unveiled the official trailer for "Surviving Compton," which stars Rhyon Nicole Brown (Tyler Perry's "For Better or Worse" series) as Michel'le, while newcomer Curtis Hamilton plays Dr. Dre. Meanwhile, "Straight Outta Compton" actor R. Marcos Taylor is once again portraying Death Row honcho Suge Knight.

Directed by TV helmer Janice Cooke (Pretty Little Liars, Hit the Floor, Gossip Girl), the cable movie will also star Jamie Kennedy as NWA manager Jerry Heller and newcomer Omari Wallace as Easy-E.

"Surviving Compton" is set to premiere Saturday, October 15 on the Lifetime Network.

synopsis:
Celebrated hip-hop recording artist Michel'le will speak up about the darker side of Compton hip-hop as she narrates this Lifetime Original Movie based on her life story.

Discovered at a young age, the shy, squeaky-voiced Michel'le was plucked straight from South Central, Los Angeles and catapulted into the spotlight while riding N.W.A.'s rocket ride of early success. Surrounded by industry visionaries from Eazy-E to Tupac Shakur, Michel'le quickly climbed the charts; but, her musical successes were soon overshadowed. A nearly decade-long romance with the infamous Dr. Dre pushed her into a life tarnished by alcohol, drugs and violence until her savior came in the unlikely form of Suge Knight, co-founder of Death Row Records and Dre's business partner.
