In the upcoming music documentary "Gimme Danger," veteran indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch (Only Lovers Left Alive, Down by Law) explores the vibrant history of his favorite rock-n-roll band: The Stooges. Which is a legendary proto-punk group from the late 1960s and early 70s that arguably had the greatest and most mesmerizing front man in rock-n-roll history: Jim Osterberg, better known to the world as "Iggy Pop."

Jarmusch sits down with Iggy, in an "undisclosed location," to get his account of the band's early days in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The documentary will also cover how the group developed their unique sound, and how they composed some of their greatest songs, including the classic rock anthem "I Wanna Be Your Dog."

"Gimme Danger" premiered to strong reviews at this year's Cannes Film Festival and had recently screened at TIFF. The film will open in select cities on October 28. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
Emerging from Ann Arbor Michigan amidst a countercultural revolution, The Stooges' powerful and aggressive style of rock-n-roll blew a crater in the musical landscape of the late 1960s. Assaulting audiences with a blend of rock, blues, R&B, and free jazz, the band planted the seeds for what would be called punk and alternative rock in the decades that followed. Jim Jarmusch's new film GIMME DANGER chronicles the story of The Stooges, one of the greatest rock-n-roll bands of all time. GIMME DANGER presents the context of the Stooges emergence musically, culturally, politically, historically, and relates their adventures and misadventures while charting their inspirations and the reasons behind their initial commercial challenges, as well as their long-lasting legacy.
