"Walking Dead" star Jeffrey Dean Morgan is putting down his Negan baseball bat for the time being as he picks up a rifle and goes hunting for immigrants in the new trailer for the U.S.-Mexico border thriller "Desierto."

The film, which also stars Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle) as the unlucky prey who's just trying to get back to his son in the United States, is co-written and directed by Jonas Cuaron, who previously co-wrote the Oscar-winning film "Gravity" with his Oscar-winning director father, Alfonso Cuaron. Alfonso is also serving as a producer on the upcoming film.

Though originally slated to open in March, "Desierto" is now coming to U.S. theaters on October 14. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
From Jonas Cuaron and Alfonso Cuaron, the acclaimed filmmakers of GRAVITY, comes a unique, modern vision of terror. DESIERTO is a visceral, heart-pounding suspense-thriller packed with tension and suspense from start to finish, starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante chases a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border. In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they continuously discover there's nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer.
