Resuming his fascination with the British royal family, Peter Morgan, the two-time Oscar-nominated screenwriter and playwright of "Frost/Nixon" and "The Queen," has created a new historical series for Netflix, which is tracing the early years of Queen Elizabeth II. One could call it a prequel to the Helen Mirren-starrer "The Queen."

The streaming company has released an official full-length trailer for Morgan's 10-episode drama "The Crown," which sees actress Claire Foy (Wolf Hall) as a young, 25-year-old Elizabeth II and former "Doctor Who" star Matt Smith as the Queen's newly-minted husband, Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh. The series will focus on their marriage as she begins her reign as the new Queen of England.

Other cast members include Jared Harris as the Queen's father, King George VI; John Lithgow as England's legendary Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Vanessa Kirby as the Queen's younger sister, Princess Margaret.

Stephen Daldry, the three-time Oscar-nominated helmer of "Billy Elliot," "The Hours," and "The Reader," directs the hour-long pilot. Meanwhile, Julian Jarrold (Kinky Boots), Philip Martin (Prime Suspect: The Final Act), and Benjamin Caron (Sherlock) are among the directors who are helming episodes.

"The Crown" premieres November 4 on Netflix.

The Crown focuses on Queen Elizabeth II as a 25-year-old newlywed faced with the daunting prospect of leading the world's most famous monarchy while forging a relationship with legendary Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. The British Empire is in decline, the political world is in disarray, and a young woman takes the throne....a new era is dawning. Peter Morgan's masterfully researched scripts reveal the Queen's private journey behind the public facade with daring frankness. Prepare to be welcomed into the coveted world of power and privilege and behind locked doors in Westminster and Buckingham Palace....the leaders of an empire await.
