One of the breakout horror films at this year's Sundance Film Festival, "The Eyes of My Mother" is a highly atmospheric and minimalistic Gothic thriller, shot entirely in black-and-white, about a homicidal woman (Kika Magalhaes) living in near isolation on her family farm where she was taught to perform bizarre human surgeries by her Portuguese, eye surgeon mother (Diana Agostini).

First-time writer-director Nicolas Pesce, who started his career as a music video director, appears to have created a spine-chilling tale that's sure to be a conversation piece among horror fans.

The film, which also stars Clara Wong, Flora Diaz, Paul Nazak, and Will Brill, will be hitting theaters and VOD on December 2. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
In their secluded farmhouse, a mother, formerly a surgeon in Portugal, teaches her daughter, Francisca, to understand anatomy and be unfazed by death. One afternoon, a mysterious visitor horrifyingly shatters the idyll of Francisca's family life, deeply traumatizing the young girl, but also awakening some unique curiosities. Though she clings to her increasingly reticent father, Francisca’s loneliness and scarred nature converge years later when her longing to connect with the world around her takes on a distinctly dark form.
