Based on the 2012 memoir of award-winning journalist (and Newsweek's first female senior editor) Lynn Povich, Amazon's new original series "Good Girls Revolt" takes viewers back to the year 1969 when women had to fight hard to be accepted as legitimate news reporters.

Recently picked up for a full first season, the series stars Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Genevieve Angelson (TV's House of Lies), and Erin Darke (Love & Mercy) as three young, ambitious newswomen, who are unfairly devalued and permitted to work only as researchers and fact checkers for their male counterparts at "News of the Week" magazine. But when the burgeoning women's liberation movement start to take shape, these "good girls" are motivated to organize a female staff revolt against their bosses (James Belushi and Chris Diamantopoulos).

Created by Dana Calvo (CBS' Made in Jersey), the series also stars Joy Bryant (Parenthood) as real-life civil rights activist and future Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton. While "Mr. Robot" actress Grace Gummer (daughter of Meryl Streep) portrays a young Nora Ephron (yes, that Nora Ephron), who, before being known as a world-renowned filmmaker (Sleepless in Seattle) and screenwriter (When Harry Met Sally), started her career as a mail girl at Newsweek. Ephron was also a key figure in the "good girls revolt" against Newsweek (referred in the show as "News of the Week"), which resulted in a groundbreaking 1970 class action lawsuit concerning sex discrimination in the workplace.

The hour-long pilot episode, directed by Liza Johnson (Elvis & Nixon), is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime. The rest of the series will premiere Friday, October 28.

synopsis:
In 1969, while a cultural revolution swept through the free world, there was still one place that refused to change with the times: newsrooms. Good Girls Revolt follows a group of young female researchers at "News of the Week," who ask to be treated fairly. Their revolutionary request sparks convulsive changes and upends marriages, careers, sex lives, love lives, and friendships.
