Former Nickelodeon star Alex Wolff (brother of Nat) is trying to find the notoriously reclusive author JD Salinger in the trailer for "Coming Through the Rye," a semi-biographical coming-of-age drama from Emmy-winning director, writer, and producer James Steven Sadwith (1992's miniseries Sinatra), which is based on his life as a young inspiring dramatist.

Wolff plays a fictionalized version of Sadwith, a 16-year-old kid named Jamie, who, while attending an all-boys boarding school in 1969, sets out to find "The Catcher in the Rye" author JD Salinger (played by Oscar-winner Chris Cooper) and get his permission to adapt his famous book into a school play.

Co-starring Stefania Owen (Krampus) and Adrian Pasdar (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), "Coming Through the Rye" has nabbed a number of awards this year on the festival circuit. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 14.

synopsis:
Based on the Emmy Award-winning filmmaker's own true story, 16-year-old Jamie Schwartz (Alex Wolff) wants desperately to be a worldly adolescent. Unhappy at his all-boys boarding school, his life raft is the belief that he will someday play Holden Caulfield -- the complex and alienated main character from the iconic novel The Catcher in the Rye -- on Broadway and in the movies. He adapts the novel as a play and runs away to the mountains of New Hampshire to search for the book’s reclusive author, JD Salinger (Academy Award winner Chris Cooper). Along the way he is picked up by a local girl, DeeDee Gorlin (Stefania Owen). Their odyssey and the events that follow are a journey into the meanings of friendship, sex, love and loss.
