Taraji P Henson, Octavia Spencer, and R&B singer Janelle Monae portray the real-life African-American women at NASA who played pivotal roles in launching astronaut John Glenn into orbit in a new trailer for the 1960s historical drama "Hidden Figures."

Based on the best-selling non-fiction book by Margot Lee Shetterly, the film tells the remarkable true story of space physicist Katherine Johnson (Henson), pioneering computer programmer Dorothy Vaughn (Spencer), and aerospace engineer Mary Jackson (Monae) who started their NASA careers as gifted mathematicians during the early frenzy of the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union.

In addition to Henson, Spencer, and Monae, the cast also includes Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons, Luke Cage's Mahershala Ali, Straight Outta Compton's Aldis Hodge, and Everybody Wants Some's Glen Powell as astronaut John Glenn.

Directed by Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent) and produced by self-proclaimed NASA enthusiast Pharrell Williams, who also provides original music for the soundtrack, "Hidden Figures" is set to open in U.S. theaters January 6, 2017.
