Jennifer Lawrence forms an unexpected yet close relationship with Chris Pratt while trekking across the galaxy in the debut trailer for "Passengers."

In this futuristic romance drama, Lawrence and Pratt share the screen as Aurora and Jim, two Earthlings traveling on a large, sophisticated spacecraft, en route to a far and distant colony planet, where human passengers are hoping to start a new life.

Unfortunately for Aurora and Jim, they have inexplicably awakened from their hibernation pods 90 years too early. Worse yet, the ship's computer system seems to be malfunctioning, and Aurora and Jim are the only two souls awake who can save the spaceship and everyone on it.

Acclaimed Norwegian director Morten Tyldum, who earned an Oscar nomination for 2014's WWII-era Alan Turing biopic "The Imitation Game," directs the upcoming film, which co-stars Laurence Fishburne, a heavily bearded Andy Garcia, and a robotic Michael Sheen.

Written by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus), "Passengers" is slated for a Christmas release, opening worldwide on Wednesday, December 21.

Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are two passengers onboard a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As Jim and Aurora try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction... only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up.
