Jonathan Rhys Meyers nabbed a Golden Globe win and an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of rock-n-roll legend Elvis Presley in the 2005 mini-series. Now it seems he has traded in those sequin jackets for a leather one.

The Irish-born actor is seen portraying iconic British punk rocker Joe Strummer in the trailer for "London Town," the 1979s-set coming-of-age/punk-rock drama, which is inspired by "the only band that mattered:" The Clash.

The film is set against the backdrop of the political uproar in England, during the onset of the Thatcher-era. And it follows a 15-year-old kid (played by "Into the Woods" actor Daniel Huttlestone) as he finds himself drawn into the anti-establishment punk rock scene in London after being influenced by the music of The Clash -- particularly the politically-charged lyrics of the band's frontman, Joe Strummer (Rhys Meyers).

Directed by Derrick Borte (The Joneses) from a screenplay by Matt Brown (The Man Who Knew Infinity), "London Town" co-stars Dougray Scott (TV's Fear the Walking Dead), Natascha McElhone (TV's Designated Survivor) and Nell Williams (a.k.a. the young Cersei Lannister on HBO's Game of Thrones).

Featuring music by the likes of The Clash, Toots and The Maytals, and Buzzcocks, the film will be hitting theaters and VOD on October 7.

synopsis:
Experience the music and energy of the 1970s punk underground. When fifteen-year-old Shay (Daniel Huttlestone) hears the music of The Clash for the first time, it’s a revelation, opening up a new world of social consciousness and anti-establishment defiance beyond anything he's known in his dead-end London suburb. Drawn into the heart of the city’s burgeoning punk scene, he forges two relationships that will change his life, falling in love with rebellious cool girl Vivian (Nell Williams) and finding an unexpected connection with none other than The Clash's electrifying frontman, Joe Strummer (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). Propelled by a blistering soundtrack that bounces from The Clash to The Ramones to Buzzcocks, London Town captures the sound and spirit of a scene that shook the world.
