"Star Trek" actor Zachary Quinto is the narrator of this new documentary, which is chronicling the Arctic expedition of six NASA researchers who've been tasked with drafting the blueprints for the first human exploration of Mars.

Equipped with a modified Humvee vehicle, these six men -- including acclaimed documentary filmmaker/adventurist Jean-Christophe Jeauffre -- travel through the icy and rocky terrain of the Canadian Arctic (which is said to closely resemble the Martian surface) as they gather vital information and survival tactics for what could possibly be the first steps to putting humans on Mars.

Based on the journal writings of NASA scientist Pascal Lee as told by Quinto, "Passage to Mars" will also include special guest voice appearances by Oscar-nominated British actress Charlotte Rampling and astronaut legend Buzz Aldrin.

The film arrives in theaters and VOD on September 30. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
Before man makes it to Mars, he must conquer the Arctic. Passage to Mars is the incredible true story of six men who embark on a treacherous, 2,000-mile journey across the forbidding tundra of the Northwest Passage -- an alien voyage on planet Earth designed to prepare NASA astronauts for an eventual mission to Mars. But as an expedition that was supposed to take weeks stretches into a two-year odyssey, the crew must overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges and life-threatening conditions if they hope to realize their dreams of someday reaching the Red Planet. This breathtaking adventure features narration by Zachary Quinto and special guest voice appearances by Buzz Aldrin and Academy Award nominee Charlotte Rampling.
