Cult surrealist filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky (El Topo, Santa Sangre) hadn't directed a movie in 23 years before making his long-awaited comeback in 2013 with his acclaimed quasi-autobiographical, lyrical film "The Dance of Reality."

Now merely three years later, the 87-year-old Chilean auteur has just completed his latest opus, "Endless Poetry (Poesia sin fin)," which is a sequel to his previous 1930s-set film. But this time, the premise will revolve around Jodorowsky's formative years in the 1940s as a young struggling artist who finds himself being drawn into Chile's bohemian subculture of surrealists and poets.

French-Chilean rock musician Adan Jodorowsky (Alejandro's youngest son) plays his father as a college-aged man in the upcoming film. Meanwhile, Chilean actor Brontis Jodorowsky (Alejandro's eldest son) is back portraying his grandfather, Alejandro's domineering father, Jaime. While Jeremias Herskovits, star of "The Dance of Reality," has also returned to play Alejandro as a child.

"Endless Poetry," which premiered to strong reviews in May at the Cannes Film Festival, doesn't have an official U.S. release date, as of yet. But it is currently scheduled to open in France in early October.

Watch the film's newly-released international trailer, above, which now includes English subtitles. But this being an Alejandro Jodorowsky film, the visuals are certainly enough to keep anyone's attention.

synopsis:
Through Alejandro Jodorowsky's autobiographical lens, Endless Poetry narrates the years of the Chilean artist's youth during which he liberated himself from all of his former limitations, from his family, and was introduced into the foremost bohemian artistic circle of 1940s Chile where he met Enrique Lihn, Stella Diaz VarĂn, Nicanor Parra... at the time promising young but unknown artists who would later become the titans of twentieth-century Hispanic literature. He grew inspired by the beauty of existence alongside these beings, exploring life together, authentically and freely. A tribute to Chile's artistic heritage, Endless Poetry is also an ode to the quest for beauty and inner truth, as a universal force capable of changing one's life forever, written by a man who has dedicated his life and career to creating spiritual and artistic awareness across the globe.
