Boyd Holbrook, star of Netflix's "Narcos," plays a newly freed convict who decides to help an abused woman and murder suspect (played by Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss) in the new trailer for the redemption drama "The Free World."

The film, which is set in Louisiana and deals with such topics as false incarceration and domestic violence, marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Jason Lew, who wrote Gus Van Sant's eccentric love story "Restless."

"The Free World" also stars Octavia Spencer, Sung Kang, and Waleed Zuaiter. The movie, which premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, will be hitting theaters and VOD next week, beginning September 23.

synopsis:
How hard would you fight to be free? After spending two decades in prison for a crime he didn't commit, Mo (Boyd Holbrook) struggles to put his past behind him as he readjusts to a new life working in an animal shelter. Doris (Elisabeth Moss) is trapped in another sort of prison: an abusive marriage. A dramatic encounter brings these two troubled souls together, and a possible murder connects them. Soon, Mo finds himself risking everything -- including being locked up once again for someone else's crime -- to protect the fragile Doris.
