50 Shades of Grey's Jamie Dornan trades in his whips for a rifle to star in Netflix's new war drama "The Siege of Jadotville," where he plays a Commander of U.N. soldiers assigned to stand their ground against an approaching army of Congo mercenaries.

Based on real events that took place in September 1961, the film tells the story of Irish commander Patrick Quinlan (Dornan) as he leads his 150 United Nations troops while under attack by an army of 3,000 Congolese soldiers, led by French and Belgian mercenaries working for mining companies. Although severely outnumbered and outgunned, Quinlan continued to lead his men during an extended five-day battle against an overwhelming force without losing a single man, which makes this one of the greatest fought battles of the 20th century.

Making his directorial debut is Irish helmer Richie Smyth, helming from a script by Kevin Brodbin (Constantine), based on the novel of the same name by author Declan Power. The film also stars Mark Strong, Jason O'Mara, Guillaume Canet, Sam Keeley, Mikael Persbrandt, and Michael McElhatton.

"The Siege of Jadotville" will be available on Netflix starting Friday, October 7th. Watch the trailer, above.
