Documentary shorts are generally only seen in film festivals where they're typically given a limited window for viewing. But it appears they may have gotten a new home with a much broader audience: Netflix!

The streaming company has acquired their latest original documentary short "The White Helmets," which hails from director Orlando von Einsiedel and producer Joanna Natasegara, the team behind the Oscar-nominated Netflix documentary feature "Virunga."

Currently screening at both the Toronto International and Telluride Film Festival, "The White Helmets" tells the harrowing story of the courageous civilians who volunteer to serve as first responders to the bombing attacks in Syria. The film follows the daily lives of these brave volunteers as they work tirelessly and selflessly to rescue the injured from the rubble.

The 40-minute documentary is slated to premiere next week, Friday, September 16 on Netflix. Watch the newly-released trailer, above.

synopsis:
In Aleppo, the most important thing to remember is that all life is precious. The White Helmets search for survivors among the wreckage as bombs continue to fall. These ordinary men are extraordinary heroes.
