Next week, Netflix plans to stream a new riveting and incredibly haunting documentary short film that explores the agonizing decision family members must make when they find their loved ones in the intensive care unit.

Directed by Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Dan Krauss (The Kill Team, The Death of Kevin Carter), "Extremis" is a 24-minute-long observational film that was shot at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California. It follows the medical staff of the ICU as doctors consult with family members about the dire conditions of their gravely-ill loved ones.

Winner of the Jury Award for Best Documentary Short at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, "Extremis" will premiere Tuesday, September 13 on Netflix. Watch the trailer, above.
