After a quick fling with Hollywood, helming Arnold Schwarzenegger's comeback action movie "The Last Stand" in 2013, acclaimed South Korean director KIM Jee-woon (I Saw the Devil) has returned to his home country for his first feature film in three years.

Set to open in the States at the end of this month, check out the newly-released U.S. trailer for "The Age of Shadows," KIM Jee-woon's new hyper-stylistic espionage thriller that's set in the 1920s when Korea was under the colonial control of Japan.

Veteran Korean actor Song Kang-ho (of "Snowpiercer" and "The Host" fame) heads the cast as a Korean detective who, while working for the Japanese military police, is assigned to hunt down a group of resistance fighters in an attempt to hinder the rising opposition movement against the Japanese occupation.

Gong Yoo, who recently appeared in the Korean zombie blockbuster "Train to Busan," also stars.

"The Age of Shadows" just premiered to rave reviews at the Venice Film Festival, and it's also set to screen at TIFF this weekend. The film will be released in select U.S. theaters on September 23.

synopsis:
"The Age of Shadows" follows the activities of the Heroic Corps, an anti-Japanese independence organization that existed under the Japanese colonial period in South Korea. The group used violent means to achieve Korean independence.
