Saint or sinner? Jude Law appears to be both as he plays the first ever American Pontiff in the newly-released international trailer for the forthcoming series "The Young Pope."

The ten-part drama hails from Oscar-winning Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty, Youth) and it tells the fictional story of Lenny Belardo (Law), an ultra-conservative, yet intensely flawed Cardinal who becomes the first American and youngest Pope in history.

The cast also includes Diane Keaton, James Cromwell, Ludivine Sagnier, Cecile De France, Scott Shepherd, and Silvio Orlando.

The series, in which Sorrentino is directing every episode, is a joint production of UK's Sky Network, USA's HBO Network and France's Canal Plus.

"The Young Pope" is set to air in the UK and other European markets next month, beginning October 21, before making its US debut on HBO in February. Meanwhile, the first two episodes of the series will be making its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival this weekend.
