Mark Wahlberg is reuniting with his "Lone Survivor" director Peter Berg for "Deepwater Horizon," an intense ensemble drama about the hours that led up to one of the worst oil rig disasters in recent memory.

In a newly-released "first look" featurette, we get to see what went into the making of this highly ambitious disaster film, which required set designers to build a life-size recreation of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig.

The film, also starring Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O'Brien, and Kate Hudson, is based on the harrowing true accounts of the crew members who survived the 2010 explosion, which took the lives of 11 people and injured 17 others.

The tragic events ended up becoming more identified for its aftermath, which has been commonly referred to as the BP oil spill. For 87 days, following the explosion, a crack pipeline located on the sea floor spewed out about 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. It caused the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history. The film, however, is primarily centering on the workers who tragically lost their lives on that fateful day.

"Deepwater Horizon" opens September 30.
