"Slumdog Millionaire" star Dev Patel searches for his biological family in the trailer for "Lion," the forthcoming film adaptation of Saroo Brierley's best-selling memoir "A Long Way Home."

Patel is portraying Saroo, an Indian man who at age five was separated from his family after getting lost on a train ride to Calcutta. After miraculously surviving on the streets by himself, Saroo was eventually adopted and raised by a loving Australian couple (played in the film by Nicole Kidman and David Wenham). 25 years later, Saroo travels back to India to see if he can locate his birthplace and reunite with his biological mother and brother.

Garth Davis, the Emmy-nominated director of Jane Campion's acclaimed series "Top of the Lake," makes his feature directorial debut with "Lion," which will be making its world premiere in September at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film, which also stars Rooney Mara, will open theatrically on November 25.
