Casey Affleck returns to his hometown to take care of his 16-year-old nephew in the newly-released trailer for the New England-set drama "Manchester by the Sea," which also stars Michelle Williams and Kyle Chandler.

Affleck, in what will be his third film of 2016, stars as Lee, an emotionally withdrawn handyman working out of the Boston area. When a family tragedy brings him back to his working-class New England town, Lee surprisingly (and unwillingly) finds himself becoming the guardian of his brother's teenage son (played by Lucas Hedges; "The Zero Theorem").

Premiering to strong reviews at this year's Sundance Film Festival, "Manchester by the Sea" is the third feature written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kenneth Lonergan (You Can Count on Me, Margaret).

Produced by Matt Damon, the film co-stars Gretchen Mol, Matthew Broderick, Tate Donovan, and Josh Hamilton.

"Manchester by the Sea" will open in select theaters on November 18. It will also screen next month at the Toronto International Film Festival.

synopsis:
In Manchester by the Sea, the latest film from award-winning writer and director Kenneth Lonergan, the life of a solitary Boston janitor is transformed when he returns to his hometown to take care of his teenage nephew. The story of the Chandlers, a working-class family living in a Massachusetts fishing village for generations, Manchester by the Sea is a deeply poignant, unexpectedly funny exploration of the power of familial love, community, sacrifice and hope
