A newly-released Japanese trailer is providing the first look at "Max Steel," an upcoming sci-fi/superhero movie that's based on the action figure toy line and animated series from Mattel.

The live-action adaptation stars Ben Winchell, of MTV's "Finding Carter" fame, as Maxwell "Max" McGrath, a teenager whose life is upended when he discovers he has a super ability to absorb and generate "TURBO" energy. After forming a physical partnership with a small alien robot named "Steel," Max is transformed into a techno-organic superhero and takes over his late father's mission of protecting Earth from hostile aliens.

Directed by commercial helmer Stewart Hendler, who directed the web series "H+" and "Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn," the film also stars Andy Garcia, Maria Bello, Mike Doyle, and Ana Villafane, while Josh Brener (aka Big Head from HBO's "Silicon Valley") is lending his voice to the alien robot sidekick "Steel."

"Max Steel," which has been stuck in the production phase since 2014 (at one time, Taylor Lautner was originally attached to the project), is currently scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on October 21.
